Episode 48: More Screen Time And More Candy Please
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Kids can spot the truth faster than adults can explain it, so we hand them the microphones and let them lead. Our family sits down for a candid roundtable where the questions are simple and the answers are not: what do they love about Dad, what drives them crazy, and what rules at home feel unfair. Along the way, they share what they’re genuinely into right now, from cheerleading and singing to anime, makeup, nails, and the video games that double as their social hangouts. We get specific about modern kid life and parenting in the screen time era. The kids break down texting vs calling, why tone gets lost in messages, how YouTube habits shape what they watch, and why “one hour a day” can feel impossible when friends, games, and boredom collide. We also talk youth sports motivation, performance pressure, and mental blocks in tumbling, plus what coaching styles actually help them improve without shutting down. Then we zoom out to the bigger stuff: what it’s like making friends at different ages, why the adults run for stress relief and mental health, and what adulthood really brings, including autonomy, responsibility, and financial pressure. We wrap with our favorite things about each child, a few kid jokes, and some classic sleepover energy. If you care about family communication, screen time boundaries, parenting teenagers, and raising confident kids, hit play, subscribe, and share this with a parent who needs a laugh and a reality check, then leave a review with the rule your house debates most.
Meet The Kids\n
SPEAKER_07Alright, welcome back to the Daily Edge. We have more guests today. We're excited. Um, we wanted to get all the kids on an episode, and you guys have seen six thus far. Today you're gonna get to meet Eden, who is my uh third in birth order. Uh, Kennedy and Grant are also here. So we're still missing Roman, who is the oldest, for another episode. Um, but today we're gonna spend some time with them, learn more about what's going on in their lives, ask a bunch of questions, and uh to kick us off, we're gonna throw it over to TJ or Todd to get us going. Yeah, um, this is Grant. Uh he is my youngest.
SPEAKER_06He is uh what do you how old are you? Five. Five years old. Do you know when you turn six?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Do you remember what month you turned six in?
SPEAKER_02January fourth?
SPEAKER_06Close. Close. June 24th. Oh.
SPEAKER_07That's right. Um, my question for you guys would be: what is your favorite?
Favorite And Least Favorite Dad Traits\n
SPEAKER_07And we're gonna recycle some questions here from prior episodes, but always good to get multiple perspectives. What is the your favorite thing and your least favorite thing about your dad?
SPEAKER_03My favorite thing about my dad is that he's like really supportive and supportive in everything that I do and like all my sports and stuff like that, and my least favorite thing about my dad is that every time, like we all like we all get mad a lot. Like me and my um siblings, we always start fighting, and he gets mad, and we all get mad.
unknownI don't know.
SPEAKER_03It's a hard question.
SPEAKER_06Do you have an answer? Do you have a favorite thing about me? What what's your answer?
SPEAKER_02That he picks me up and like when I pick you up from school? Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02No, I when you pick me up.
SPEAKER_06From oh, like lift you up when like in church and stuff. Yeah. Yeah, okay. You really like that.
SPEAKER_02And the bad thing is that you get mad a lot.
SPEAKER_06I do. Okay. That's good to know. Thank you.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I'd say the least thing is probably the least thing is probably that you get mad for the littlest things. It's annoying. And then the best thing, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00This is a different question. Um we'll see what comes of it.
Passions And Hobbies Right Now\n
SPEAKER_00But you girls, you're pretty young. We'll see what what if you have an answer for this. You girls have some pretty unique passions. You guys do some things, like, and you're into some things, but you're really into them. Um, and I'd like to talk about like I'd like to ask you what you're most passionate about and why you enjoy it so much.
SPEAKER_03Um, I'm really passionate about doing stuff like, well, I love doing cheer. It's like one of my favorite things, or one of my favorite sports that I've done. Well, it is my favorite sport that I've done. Um, like I get enjoy it with my friends. Um, my coaches are nice. We have a lot of fun and like makeup kind of relies on or like connects with cheer. Like I get to do my makeup and stuff like that. And I also like doing my nails a lot. It's really fun. Like, I can choose designs. Um, I can like take time. It's like the time that I normally have a long time for, so it's really fun. Wow.
SPEAKER_04I'm into singing. I don't really know why I'm into that. It's just something I've done for a really long time.
SPEAKER_06What's your favorite thing to do?
SPEAKER_02Probably after my protein, I like to eat my candy.
SPEAKER_06After eating your protein, you like to eat your candy. What's your favorite candy? Probably scared old skin.
SPEAKER_07Favorite candy for you guys or that?
SPEAKER_03Um I do like the airhead bites. Those are really good. I like those a lot. And like the Narrativas. I like chocolate a lot. Either it has to be MM's or Sour Patch watermelon. Yeah, I like Sour Patch Watermelon too. I also recently I've been like liking these candies. They're called rollos. I really love them.
unknownThose are great.
SPEAKER_07Old school. I think everybody that is at least 40 year older knows what a Rolo is. Maybe some of you don't. But caramel in the middle.
unknownChocolate in the middle.
SPEAKER_04Don't ask me that.
SPEAKER_07What do you like to do for fun? What's what do you do in your spare time?
SPEAKER_04I guess I just watch anime.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. What do you like about it?
SPEAKER_04That's a really good question. Um I don't know.
unknownWhat does I got to anime?
SPEAKER_07Good storylines, maybe?
SPEAKER_04I guess.
SPEAKER_07So what is your so your favorite show? Is that a show or a movie? Like a TV show?
SPEAKER_00It's a classification of type genre. Genre. Genre.
SPEAKER_07Anime. It's a genre. Kenny, what's your favorite thing to watch?
SPEAKER_03I like to watch a bunch of well, normally I watch YouTube shorts, and a lot of times on YouTube shorts it shows like makeup videos and nail videos because I used to look up stuff about it all the time, so it just got like leaked into my shorts kind of, and that's like a lot of things that I watch.
SPEAKER_07How about you? What do you like to watch?
SPEAKER_02Jesser.
SPEAKER_07Jesser. So what's that? What's he on?
SPEAKER_02On YouTube, I think.
SPEAKER_07He's a YouTuber? Yeah.
unknownOkay.
What They Watch And How They Text\n
SPEAKER_00You know, things have changed a lot since we were younger. Um we used to, believe it or not, this house had two and a half phone lines. So we had the phones, you know, the wired phones. And we had one that was called waiting, so you could actually see, you know, you could act when we when I was really little, we had one line, and if I was talking on it, nobody else could call me. And then we got call waiting. So if somebody else called while I was on the phone, I could check and see who it was, and I could pick somebody to talk to. And then as we got older, we had a third line that was for the internet, because you had to have a phone line for the internet. But since we've gotten older, communication with our friends has changed a ton. And I would love to know and to understand what your what are the common ways for some of the older people watching this that may think, oh my kid is always on their iPad or they're always on their phone. And you know, what are the what are the ways you like to communicate with your friends the most?
SPEAKER_03Well, I normally text my friends. Um, but calling my friends is really fun because I can see them and I can understand what they're saying. But like, for example, when I text my friends, a lot of my friends are not very good at texting. They're normally like cool instead of being like cool, like you can't really understand like their like what their point is. Like maybe they're trying to be sarcastic or maybe they're trying to be like actually real. So I like calling.
SPEAKER_04Well, I like I like texting or meeting in person. I don't really like calls. Just depends.
SPEAKER_00Do you still have those big giant groups of people in like FaceTime calls can?
SPEAKER_03Well, normally, not like a lot of people call anymore. We just we still have a bunch of group calls that we can do. Like we have a fourth grade hawk, so it's just all the fourth grade.
SPEAKER_00How many people are in that?
SPEAKER_03Like 16 people.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_03But like no, not a lot of people of them call. Like some people constantly calling, and some people never call.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
Growing Up Dreams And AI\n
SPEAKER_07So what do you guys um want to do when you grow up? You know, there's uh we we talked a little bit on this podcast about AI and um the different professions it may replace or not. Does that have any impact on what you want to do when you grow up and what do you want to do when you grow up?
SPEAKER_03Well when I grow up, well, since I do cheer right now, when I grow up, I really want to be a cheer coach. Because it sounds really fun. Like I gotta work on stuff that I used, I can like help people work on stuff that I used to work on. It's really fun being like doing cheer and stuff.
SPEAKER_04Um I don't know what I want to be when I grow up. But I don't really think it would impact it that much.
SPEAKER_07You still want to live at home full time and take care of me and mom?
SPEAKER_04Yep.
SPEAKER_07That's still the plan?
SPEAKER_02Definitely.
SPEAKER_07Do you know what you want to be when you grow up yet? Yeah. What?
SPEAKER_02A basketball player.
SPEAKER_07Basketball player in the NBA.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_07Love that.
SPEAKER_06What team do you want to play for?
SPEAKER_02It'd be Tween the Pacers and the Golden Warriors.
unknownOkay. Got it. Love that.
SPEAKER_02So, I really know.
SPEAKER_07What questions do you guys have for us? This is uh, you can ask us any question except who our favorite child is.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Oliver asked that.
SPEAKER_07What questions do you guys have and uh for us?
Building Races And Cheer Discipline\n
SPEAKER_03Um, what is it, or well, this is kind of for all of you, but mostly my dad. What is it like to like take care of like and help out and work on races and stuff?
SPEAKER_00Well, it is um fulfilling, but it's cool because you really get, especially the smaller races that we do, and they're not super small anymore, but um, it's a good feedback loop. You get to work on, you know, for us, for me, for the team, it's how can we provide the best experience ever? So we want to make sure that anybody that runs a race that we have has a different experience. Um, think about for you the difference between going to the the the meet or the the comp you went to two weeks ago and going to Jamfest. Yeah, right? It's like a huge difference. Jamfest is crazy over the top, all these things. And that's what we want people to show up and be like, wow, this is they really put a lot of thought into this. I had a great time. And it's cool too because then you get feedback and then they'll come to you and they'll say, Yeah, I really, really like this. This was a great idea. Um, it's fun to involve all you kids. So, like, you girls making the awards for the last couple of years, that's super cool. Um, and seeing where all of those end up, you would not imagine uh where some of the awards that you guys have have uh created have ended up. One guy gave one to his physical therapist, it's in their office. Um, so many people have them in their classrooms, the ones that were teachers that ran. So it's it's very cool to see all of that come together and to watch people accomplish things that they didn't ever think they could do. I got one for you, kind of back to you um a little bit, and then maybe everybody else could answer it too. Um you're involved in a sport that we talked a little bit about this, that many people would look at as boring because you guys do one routine for an entire year. That's all you do. Um, what do you do to make that process fun? And how difficult is it to memorize a routine like that?
SPEAKER_03Well, it's pretty difficult to memorize it because you're probably doing like a different like move or something, like every three seconds, you're always doing something. It's pretty difficult because as like depending on what you're doing. For example, I used to be a flyer, but flyers have a hard job of staying up, being tight, and like it they have to stretch a lot. As a base, it's hard to lift a human up in the air. Back spots have to make sure they don't fall backwards, and it's kind of hard to memorize it. So, yeah.
SPEAKER_00How do you keep it fun?
SPEAKER_03Hanging out with my friends, like they we always do like or they're always really fun to talk to and stuff when I have the time to. Um I also like sometimes we do these little fun tier games that make it really fun. It's really fun sometimes a lot of the time.
SPEAKER_07What is your favorite thing about your moms?
Moms, House Rules, And Being A Kid\n
SPEAKER_02That he kind of likes me.
SPEAKER_07Kind of she lets you play screens on her phone, is that what he said?
SPEAKER_03I love so like I said, I just love how she can help me out with some of the stuff. Like that my dad can't, like, he can't do my hair at all, but she can. She helps me with like my makeup or like something that's wrong. She helps me with a lot of stuff, and she's always there for me.
SPEAKER_04Um favorite for my mom is the food. She makes really good food.
SPEAKER_00How would you guys like you look at the way that your mothers and we parent you, how would you change the way we parent? What would you do different if you were in charge?
SPEAKER_03Give them more screen time?
SPEAKER_00More screen time.
SPEAKER_03That's so interesting.
SPEAKER_04I don't know. Screen time, and actually let me have Coca-Cola more than once a week.
SPEAKER_07What rule would you change at home?
SPEAKER_02Candy.
SPEAKER_07More candy.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And more screens.
SPEAKER_00Okay. What's the best thing about being a kid right now, or being a teenager in that age range right now?
SPEAKER_04Not having to take care of people.
SPEAKER_03Having to pay taxes and stuff. Nice. I like what she said. You don't have to pay taxes. You're kind of just gonna touch your life.
SPEAKER_00What do you think though?
SPEAKER_03What do you think, buddy?
SPEAKER_02I don't know.
SPEAKER_03Like we can run around and stuff. Well, you can't, you guys can run around, but you're all the time working and doing your job.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, I think I know mine now.
SPEAKER_03So yeah.
SPEAKER_01We'll play soccer.
SPEAKER_00Do you what do you guys think would have been like if you think about when we grew up, is there anything back then that you would have liked to experience? Like, you know, you guys have some a lot of stuff we didn't have, right?
Nostalgia And Favorite Trips\n
SPEAKER_00We didn't, when we were really little, we didn't have computers, we didn't have cell phones, we didn't have um YouTube or tablets or any of these kinds of things, you know. Is there anything that we did have or that you guys have heard about back then that you would have you would have liked to experience?
SPEAKER_03Well, I saw I see these a bunch of these like videos. There's this girl on YouTube that like brings back stuff from like the 2000s and stuff like that. And it looks like really like they have a bunch of cool trends and stuff like that. It kind of looks fun to have the cool phones that you guys do or add. They look cool.
SPEAKER_04I would say going to a Michael Jackson or Queen concert would be good.
SPEAKER_00I wish I was that a little bit. Yeah, we would we'd miss Michael. He was good.
SPEAKER_07I was gonna say, how about favorite trip you've ever been on? Favorite trip?
SPEAKER_03I had like two favorite trips. Um it was a rather very long trip that we took to Colorado. But how many times have we been to Colorado?
unknownOnce.
SPEAKER_03I feel like we've been more than once? Yeah, because one time we didn't really make it. But um I like Colorado a lot. It's pretty fun, except for the time I fell off my the cabin and got a black eye. That was New York. That was yeah, but we were on our way to Colorado, weren't we? No, we were in New York. We were skiing in New York. Okay, we were skiing in New York. Yeah, that was very scary. Um, but I also like Las Vegas. We gotta go to California. It was really fun there. Yep. In Florida. Um, what was the beach called? Cocoa. Cocoa Beach. That's a really fun place to hang out and stuff.
SPEAKER_06What was your favorite trip?
SPEAKER_02Um Great Wolf Logged.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, we got in Mayland.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
unknownIt's great.
SPEAKER_04Well, mine's is kind of like Kennedy, um, Colorado, except when my dad took me on a black diamond and I rolled down the mountain. Um, and the other one is Las Vegas.
SPEAKER_03Didn't you drive into a tree?
SPEAKER_04We don't talk about that. That's that's history.
SPEAKER_07What um what
School Opinions And Sleep Habits\n
SPEAKER_07is your favorite thing about school?
SPEAKER_04Nothing. Nothing. I don't like school except the recess we have. Okay. Lunch or like 25 minutes.
SPEAKER_07You like recess? You like your lunch? Is your favorite?
SPEAKER_03My least favorite thing is well, it's called literacy. We're learning about the American Revolution. It's just too hard to keep up with. We're talking about like John Hancock and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_06How about you? What's your favorite thing about school?
SPEAKER_02I have two things that might make down and two things about school.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_02So my school is um lunch and recess, and my dad is um can you stop yelling and get my pull-ups?
SPEAKER_07Oh, we'll get your pull-ups a little later. Okay.
SPEAKER_00So I think maybe you guys are opposite, Eden and Kennedy. But um, you have unique sleeping habits, I think. Do you like to sleep in?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, a lot a lot.
SPEAKER_00And you get up crazy early. And I'd love to hear a little bit about uh why you love sleep so much. Oh no. And uh, like they there's this thing, let me tell you, there's this thing called chronotypes. There's four of them, but it's it it it uh classifies when your body likes to sleep. You feel like you're a night person and you just like to sleep super late?
SPEAKER_04It depends. I either go to bed at like 10 through 12. For school, I have to wake up at like 6:45, but I get out of bed at like 7:20, 7:30.
SPEAKER_07She's you back in the day.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_04Um, and then on weekends I sleep in till like maybe 11:45 to 12. Depending on how late I stay up. I once slept until 4. Yo. It's like in summer.
SPEAKER_03In summer, I would like stay in my bed all day sometimes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but talk about your little routine.
SPEAKER_03I wake up at 6 a.m., but I have to leave at like 720-ish. So I normally get up, it takes me like 10 minutes to get dressed, do my hair, and like sometimes put on like mascara or stuff like that. And then I either wait a little bit, and then I like to go downstairs at like or when I'm done with doing my makeup and stuff like that. I go downstairs. I normally pack my snack and then get my water ready, and I do this thing that we have to do every day, not in the morning. So it's called extra math, and we have to do it every day. So I like to do mine in the morning so I don't have to do it during math. And then normally my dad and my or my mom or my dad and my little maniac brother come down. That's why I like to wake up early, so I don't have to be around them all the time. And then a little different from that.
SPEAKER_04Because my the doors to my school open at 7 45 and they close at 8, and then everybody's rushing me to get ready because I don't want to wake up.
SPEAKER_06You like the mornings or the nights better?
SPEAKER_02Nights.
SPEAKER_06Yes, you do.
SPEAKER_02I just like to sleep in.
SPEAKER_07You do like to sleep in. You stay up late, don't you?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
Goals, Mental Blocks, And Coaching Styles\n
SPEAKER_07Any 2026 goals for you guys?
SPEAKER_04Nope.
SPEAKER_07No goal in life?
SPEAKER_04Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_03Um try to get closer to God and stuff like that. And I really want to get my level up and cheer.
SPEAKER_00Ooh, what does that mean?
SPEAKER_03Right now, I'm really, really, really, really, really trying hard to get my back tuck and stuff like that. I just want to push myself and really try as hard as I can to get it.
SPEAKER_00You've talked about before that it's it can be scary and that you've had friends who have lost skills. Yeah. That work.
SPEAKER_03Um, so a lot of girls on my team, I don't, I think. Something called like a mental block where they get really scared to do stuff and they eventually lose it because they haven't done it in a while. There's maybe three girls that have had that, but I get really, really scared. This is a thing that I do um round off my cancering tuck. I used to get really, really scared when my coach was there, but I had a tumbling practice, I don't know, like a couple days ago. And I just no coaches were there, and I just did it all by myself. So I kind of give nervous when coaches are there.
SPEAKER_00You know, let's uh kind of talked about this with some of the other kids. It could be teachers or coaches. What is the best way to get through to you, like from a teacher or a coach? Like what what teaching style or coaching style do you guys like the best?
SPEAKER_03I like when my coaches are kind of not mean, but like they really try to push as hard as they can. Like Coach David. Oh. He like last year he liked to push us a lot, and we only lost one competition and we lost second place. Which I liked. But about my teachers, she's always yelling at me to sit down, but I love my teacher, she's really nice. I like when they're nice to us. Like she makes everything fun.
SPEAKER_04Well at our school, we get to walk around a lot, a lot of free will there. Um like we get to walk around, we get to talk. Some people some people can yell and even get away with it. It's pretty fun, actually.
SPEAKER_07Um you respond better to positive or negative reinforcement.
SPEAKER_04It depends, actually. Um, with you guys, I don't really like listening to you guys. That's just that's just something I don't like doing. Um, teachers, I have to listen to them regardless, so I don't put up a fight. That's why I have all these right now. And then coaches, um Miss Um Kastner. I don't know.
SPEAKER_07That's volleyball, correct?
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_07When somebody's yelling at you, like they're either encouraging you or they're like, hey, you need to get better, or you're no good, or here's what you did wrong. Does that motivate you or does that make you mad and not want to do it?
SPEAKER_04I don't really care. Depends if they can just if they can do it just as good. Or like I just don't care in general.
SPEAKER_07But what about potential? We've uh we all want to see you kids reach your full potential to be the best you can be. Grant to be the best basketball player you could be, for you to be the best cheer or whatever school, whatever it is for you guys, we want to see you be the best. So we have a tendency to maybe push you a little bit because we want to see you be really good at something. Um, how do you guys feel about that?
SPEAKER_04Forcing me to do something I don't like. So because I'm I don't usually do a lot of stuff except volleyball during the school year, you kinda force me into drama. No. Do you unlike that? No.
SPEAKER_03I kinda like when my dad forces me. Or not forces me, like pushes me to do things that I don't wanna. Because um, I don't I don't know. It's like a quote. I think uh it's like the things that you're scared of can make you um the things that scare you make you better and stronger.
SPEAKER_00You don't like tumble much, but we're getting it.
SPEAKER_03I hate tumbling, but I still do it.
SPEAKER_00Because you have to, right?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I did private, but I'm tired of those things. I never learned anything.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that well that goes back to that last question. What kind of reinvent why did you dislike privates and you like a group setting? Is it because of friends? Okay.
SPEAKER_03Oh, it's not really because of friends. Um, it's mostly that oh, that's gone. It's mostly I like doing tumpling in a group because my friends it's normally my friends in that coaches aren't really paying attention. Well, they do pay attention, but I feel like I can do it more freely than in private. There's one coach only focusing on me, and like I get nervous and stuff when they're focusing fully on what I'm doing. So group is probably better than privates.
SPEAKER_07What other questions? Do you have a question yet?
SPEAKER_04Who are your favorite
Siblings, Games, And Screen Time Limits\n
SPEAKER_04two kids? Not one, two.
SPEAKER_07Do you have another question? Oh, I have a question for you guys. Um you are third, you are in the middle, and you are the youngest, like me, huh? What is it like being uh living with your siblings? Uh what what do you really enjoy? What is difficult?
SPEAKER_04Well, I'm fine with my older two siblings. Um but the younger one, how do I say this? Um he gets really annoying. He push my buttons and then I push his, and it's just like a back and forth until he starts chasing me around the house and threatening me. I'm gonna shoot you with my nerve gun. To me, now that I look back, it's kind of actually funny. I don't know.
SPEAKER_03Um, my older sibling, well, KK, we are like pretty much the exact same. We're just different bodies, but we're like the same size. We do like we're pretty much the same, but like we wear the same clothes. I hate how we always get infight about clothes in the morning. But Miles is just really crazy. He like chases people. One time when my dad and my mom are home, um, he chased us with a knife because he got bored us.
SPEAKER_06So how about you? What do you like about your bros and what do you dislike about your bros?
SPEAKER_02Um, I I I like about them that they play with me, but I don't like about them that every time I want to play with them, they're on screens.
SPEAKER_00Speaking of screens, dude, what's everybody's favorite video games?
SPEAKER_06What's your favorite video game?
SPEAKER_02Um I would say Mario Kart.
SPEAKER_04Right now I have two. So Hogwarts Legacy, it's like Harry Potter, but like you get to play it. And then there's Roblox. I don't have to explain that one.
SPEAKER_03Roblox? And I don't really play as much, but Fortnite with my siblings, but I used to play Bilattro, but Roblox is more of my thing.
SPEAKER_00We're getting back into Bilattro, maybe, because she feels left out. Kind of. Nope. Not for you? Never start again. Is there a Roblox game? Specific Roblox game?
SPEAKER_03Well, there's a couple games that I like to play.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_03I play this with Eden a lot. Survive 99 Nights, and there's a deer that tries to kill you.
SPEAKER_04Like at nighttime. I play that with them.
SPEAKER_03But today I was at the top of this thing and I jumped out and just tried to kill me. It was like right under me, waiting for it's pretty fun.
SPEAKER_04In Roblox? It depends on my mood.
SPEAKER_07I could go play a tycoon, then a simulator, then drop from a hundred floors, and then how do you feel about the uh one hour of screen time a day rule?
SPEAKER_04No, I don't like it.
SPEAKER_07How many hours should it be?
SPEAKER_03Don't ask me. Three hours.
unknownThree hours.
SPEAKER_03Three hours is a good limit. That sounds like the only time I'm calling. I'm gonna ask for more time later. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You guys live in houses. Everybody lives in houses. It has a lot going on all the time. People leave and come and go and sports, not sports. Um do you guys feel like you need do you like do you like time by yourself or do you like to always be moving?
SPEAKER_03I like time by myself, and you know that I'm always stuck in my room watching TV and calling my friends.
unknownBut yeah.
SPEAKER_04I like alone time. Yeah. Watching anime.
unknownWatching YouTube.
SPEAKER_00You like move around. You like moving around? That's what I'm talking about. The boys.
unknownLike the hustle.
SPEAKER_00Like pulling teeth with you guys. What else you got?
SPEAKER_03My teeth.
Why Parents Run And How Friends Work\n
SPEAKER_03Like getting my teeth pulled out.
SPEAKER_07You got any other questions for us?
SPEAKER_03Why do you guys like running so much?
SPEAKER_07Your dad makes us do it. Peer pressure. Um, I will say running uh is a really good stress reliever, and it's really good for me mentally. I've actually been able to compare this. I got injured last year, and I could only run like 15 to 20 easy miles a week, if that for like many months, and my stress levels were like really high, and um it was mentally not a great experience, but since I've started to train for my next race, uh mentally the stress and the mental space has been way, way, way better. So I know it's obviously doing some good things for me physically as that's well documented, but for me, running really helps me mentally, even though I particularly don't enjoy running a lot.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. No, for me, it's um something that I can go to every day that I I know is gonna give me a particular type of feedback. It's something that I can go do and I feel good about accomplishing, and that I'm good at, and that uh I always know there's gonna be the same feeling at the end of the run. So, and it's a it's a constant way to explore um just different challenges.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I um I think exploring new areas is fun. The City Strides was a fun one. I love the community behind it, finding people that um when you go out and you run and have a conversation, it's good for me.
SPEAKER_05Um I do want to maintain a certain weight or health.
SPEAKER_07Um, so just all collectively, I know that some type of exercise is good, and we have a great community around it, and it's a good way to um get out and do something.
unknownSo that's a great question.
SPEAKER_00Speaking of community, is it harder or easier to make friends at certain ages? Are you guys way harder? Tell me about it.
SPEAKER_03Like a lot of girls in my grade are like way different than me. Like girls, some girls in my grade do like flag football, some girls in my grade do soccer. Not there's only one girl maybe in my grade that this year. And it's hard to make friends with people that aren't really like me.
SPEAKER_04Okay. For me, it kind of depends. With little kids, I'm okay. Depends on who they are, because last time I read to little kids, they all wanted to sit on sit on my lap. Oh my gosh. Um, next my friends, uh, they all do different stuff than me. I only play one sport. Wow, one of my friends named Charlie does dance, soccer. She's she's good at volleyball, but she doesn't play it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I guess big group of friends or small group of friends.
SPEAKER_03Small group. I have a pretty big group.
SPEAKER_00Would you like a small group?
SPEAKER_03I have like five people in my friend group.
SPEAKER_04Okay. I like I like having one friend. Just like one friend, but my group in general is including me, eight people. Okay. Eight to ten, actually. Probably a few. A few?
SPEAKER_06Is it hard or easy to make friends?
SPEAKER_08Pretty hard.
SPEAKER_06Pretty hard.
SPEAKER_04I thought it was easy for children to make friends.
SPEAKER_03What's your guys' favorite and least favorite thing about being an adult?
Adult Responsibility And What We Love\n
SPEAKER_07Uh I would uh my favorite thing about being an adult is I have some autonomy to make my own decisions. Um as a kid, you very seldom get the absolute final say in something. So I do love the ability to make make decisions and make things happen or build things and kind of control that. Um I would say the hard part as an adult or dislike is there's just a lot of responsibility. A lot of people depend on you. So when a lot of people depend on you, sometimes that can turn into added pressure. And uh, you know, you don't when you're a kid, you don't have to worry about who's putting food on the table. You know, you guys are worried about are we gonna have McDonald's, Wendy's, or we're gonna go to the grocery store. And for the dad or the mom, it's you know, do the bills pay for the food, for the lights, for the internet, for all the things. So I would say that would be the harder part about being an adult.
SPEAKER_00My favorite thing is having being an adult, especially at this age, is having been around long enough to meet enough people that I have a resource for anything I could ever imagine. So always having somebody who's an expert or knows something more about something or can give me guidance or be a mentor. Um, so that's really cool, like being around and having just that kind of experience. And then mine's very similar. Um, I'd rather not have to worry about all of those types of things, financial specifically, because it's not where I gain any value, but uh the stress of managing um and ensuring that you're there for the people that matter the most to you and being consistent and not getting distracted with pursuits that don't uh contribute to you kids and your mom like getting where you need to be in life.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I think you guys covered them. I think the downsides of financial stress and pressure, the problems are bigger. Uh, and you you know you want everything to go well, and so you have to bear a lot of mental stress. Um, but I do like the decision making, the the flexibility to work on the things that um I enjoy. And um yeah.
SPEAKER_00That's the coolest thing. When we were little, a lot of times, um adults would tell us, like, oh, just wait till you get into the workforce. It's just this grind, and you're gonna have to do this the rest of your life. And I think we found that we that that's a cool thing as an adult, is you can take whatever it is you really like and you're really good at, and if you put enough time and effort into it, you can use that in some capacity where work doesn't feel like work, and and you are always um most of your time is spent in a space there that you enjoy for the most part.
Favorite Things About Each Child\n
SPEAKER_04What's the favorite thing about every single one of your child that's not embarrassing?
SPEAKER_07Um favorite thing about all my children that's not embarrassing. Uh I'll start with Isaiah. I love he's just all boy. He just gets after it. Um he's just always looking for the next adventure. Favorite thing about you it's gonna be a toss-up between your humor and just your love for uh music. And when you really get into singing and you're just in your own element, and just seeing you dive into that is a lot of fun. For Hadley, um her determination uh to be the best, her just discipline and work ethic, um, and her just soft heart for people. She's just got such a good heart. Um for Roman, his knowledge, and he also has just a soft heart and a good person. He's very witty, he's got a lot of uh use useless information, we like to say, but he's also just one of the kindest people out there. So that's where I would I would go with you for.
SPEAKER_00Oh, all right, I'll go the same way. Um Miles is just the homie. He's the one person, like you told me that I don't like the same things you do. So Miles is a always the guy who wants to do the stuff I want to do. You know, watch the same things, play the same things. So that's fun, and he's always there and asking to do that. You were very similar to what Uncle Trin said about Eden. Um, you're one of the few people that can make me laugh almost anytime. Um I love that you're so get so excited and you're so passionate about all of your beauty stuff, and you get all into that, and that you um are always willing to help somebody with their nails or their makeup or their hair. So I like those things. And then with your uh oldest sister, nothing, um just her her grit and determination, and that she does try, even though she gets angry at times, she's always trying to be the best she can be and help out in any way she can.
SPEAKER_06So what do you think my favorite thing about you is?
SPEAKER_02Um picking me up.
SPEAKER_07That's fun too. Um, I would say what I like most about you is you're always happy. You're always happy and just chill. Um, you're up for whatever. Oliver, what do we like about Oliver the most?
SPEAKER_04Um probably he's funny, isn't he?
SPEAKER_07Yeah, funny, funny. Yeah, he's really funny. Our uh our family is in desperate need of his humor. Um, so that's huge. And then Noah is a really hard worker, isn't he?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and he's kind of silly a lot of times.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, yeah, he's a lot of perseverance there. Or as funny as you two are. We're can we see hear some jokes or is it just wittiness right off the gate?
SPEAKER_03What do you call an alligator in a vest? Dad can't tell them.
SPEAKER_07An alligator in a vest?
SPEAKER_03A thinking of something random.
SPEAKER_04I don't know, an alivist or something?
SPEAKER_03Investigator.
SPEAKER_04I don't make jokes like that.
SPEAKER_00What about the dog one?
SPEAKER_03Ooh, what do you call a magic dog? A labricadabrador.
SPEAKER_06Do you have any jokes? Go ahead.
SPEAKER_01Why did the car cross the road? Why? Why to get off the sidewalk?
SPEAKER_07That's a great one. Nothing?
SPEAKER_04I make jokes like that.
SPEAKER_03Miles told dad like a little thing. It's will you remember me in a minute? Yeah. Will you remember me in ten minutes? Yeah. Can you remember me in an hour? Yeah. Can you remember me in a day? Yeah. Can you remember me in a month?
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_03Will you remember me in a year?
SPEAKER_00Yes, Kennedy.
SPEAKER_03Knock knock.
SPEAKER_00I know I know the riddle. Who's there?
SPEAKER_03They said you would remember me.
SPEAKER_07Oh, that's good.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Do you
Sleepovers And Cracking Screen Codes\n
SPEAKER_03guys dislike or like when we have our friends over and why?
SPEAKER_08Because I have a lot of friends over.
SPEAKER_00That can be overwhelming at times, especially the more your friends come over, the more comfortable they are, which is a good and a bad thing. Um but the other night when we had 15 kids at the house.
unknownThat was crazy.
SPEAKER_00That was crazy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we had like a little it was after our Valentine's Day dance, like a bunch of people just came over.
SPEAKER_00And when your friends are over enough and they're close enough friends that you guys treat each other like siblings, like when you and your friend were at are were fighting with each other and one was in downstairs and one was up in your room, like that's kind of wild.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we truly like we don't hang out with each other every single weekend that she's here. Meanwhile, other friends like I'm asking her, What do you want to do? But with Aubrey, I'm just like, I'm gonna go downstairs and get a snack.
SPEAKER_07I I would say for me, I love it when the kids have friends over. Um I just love the community, I think it's healthy. Uh, we don't live technically in a neighborhood, so we haven't been uh prone to the just kids stopping by all the time, which I call them refrigerator friends. They're good enough to just open your refrigerator and just get right in it. When we are at the lake in the summer, we try to just have a kind of an open door policy, and um, so I love it when the kids have sleepovers, when they have friends over, um, it's a blast. But we don't ever have 15 at a time.
SPEAKER_04So that's probably because we don't invite friends over that often. The person who invites the most over is probably me. That's maybe once every two. If you like it.
SPEAKER_03Sleepovers are really fun. I love sleepovers.
SPEAKER_00What's your favorite part of sleepovers? Staying up.
SPEAKER_03Sneaking snacks, and especially having sleepovers with Eden.
SPEAKER_07So I got a question. Does anybody else here go and give themselves time on their device by taking a parent's device and approving time requests?
SPEAKER_03I don't know. Well, my dad to approve a time request, don't you have to put in the screen code?
SPEAKER_00Well, I think yes, now you have to put my password in.
SPEAKER_07To approve a time request? Yeah, like I when it's you've gone to that because they've approved too many themselves.
SPEAKER_00She's figured out the code probably a half dozen times.
SPEAKER_03Like six times.
SPEAKER_07So you've also cracked the code.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I don't crack the code because I know that would like sometimes she'll be really stupid and put it as a code that we all know. Like 3828. He's done that before. We all know that code. And my mom, she is so bad at with codes, like I've learned the code off of her like three times. So she'll just put it in right in front of you. She'll be like you can see it. But I've got a privacy screen protector, which now I kind of get mad at because I can't see what she's typing in. But I kind of when I'm when my mom's doing it, I kind of watch her sitting there, but she's like unbelievable.
SPEAKER_07Wow. Well, anything else?
SPEAKER_04Well, back to that topic. The reason is because I can't just have an hour. You can't just give me one single hour.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_07Well, clear clearly we agree to disagree.
SPEAKER_04That's why I go on mom's iPad.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03And then I say I'm watching i'm working on Canva. I used to work I used to watch YouTube on my mom's laptop like all the time because I ran out of time. And I also use my TV once I'm done.
SPEAKER_00Do you have Canva too, Ken?
SPEAKER_03What is Canva?
SPEAKER_00Canva. Don't you use that for school?
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_04We were working on Canva because of something we're trying to do. Okay. Invitation thingies. Can we those things?
SPEAKER_07Okay. Sweet.
Quick Wrap And Goodbye
SPEAKER_07Well, um, another three of the daily kids are up, and uh we still have Roman left, which we'll get to him in a later episode. So thank you guys for hanging out with us today and uh sharing. We'll see you next time.
